A baby is born every 8 seconds in
the United States. While most are healthy, 1 in 8 comes too early
and 1 in 28 has a serious birth defect.
Each year, nearly half a million babies
are born prematurely. Today, 157 babies will be born so small they
fit in the palm of a hand. Premature babies are 14 times more likely
to die in their first year than full-term babies.
No one knows why preterm birth happens.
And no one is working harder than the March of Dimes to find the
causes of preterm labor and stop it from happening. March of Dimes
WalkAmerica saves tiny babies. When you join
WalkAmerica, youre a hero for helping give tiny premature
babies a fighting chance.
